Review #1
After You- Jojo Moyes
This sequel tells the story of Lou after the planned death of Will Turner, the quadalipdic Lou had taken care of until the very final day he took his own life. After she returned from her trip around Europe, she takes on a job at the pub at an airport where she spends her days taking orders and cleaning the toilets while her boss rants at her. She’s lost in life, not knowing how to pick all the shattered memories she had with Will. Earlier on in the book she falls off her own apartment roof, reluctantly meeting her future boyfriend in the process of recovery. People talk that she’s depressed (I mean I wouldn’t blame them for being excessively worried) but she tells them that she heard a girl’s voice before her feet slipped and caused her to fall.
That girl appeared to be Will’s own daughter, someone he hadn’t mentioned a single word to to Lou because he himself had no idea of her existence. Her name is Haley, and she’s a walking trainwreck; high volatile, with a high ability of speaking her opinion clear like a rocket. She drags Lou into all kinds of problems, from deeply drunken nights to suddenly disappearing from her sight for a straight few days. Even still, Lou deeply cares about her and has this selflessness to take care of Haley, a character that everyone would love to have.
I’m not going to tell you all the details about the colorful adventurous events that happen in the book but Moyes will take you an emotionally beautiful journey through the story of Lou finding closure with Will and slowly moving on to recreate her own life as well as the story of Haley imagining the sillouete of her father she never met through stories told by Lou and Will’s parents and growing up as a young beautiful girl despite her long period of anger and frustration.
If you’re looking for a book that will keep your imagination busy or even a small escape from the routine days of sitting in your living room, After You is a big recommend. It’s a quick read and a page turner that will fill your heart with love, bitter sweetness, and a big smile in your face at the very end. Lou’s story doesn’t end with this book; it leads to Moyes final addition to this series. I’ll post a review of that after I’ve finished that.
I hope everyone has a great day and cheers to more reading adventures ahead!
